Lockheed® P-38 LIGHTNING® was a fast and heavily-armed American long-range fighter aircraft from World War II. This unusual twin-engine plane had a gondola with a pilot’s cabin placed between two fuselages. The so-called “flying frame” provided very good performance, which resulted in a long production period lasting from 1941 to 1945 and an excellent number of victories by American pilots. The aircraft was withdrawn from service only in 1965.
